The Automatic Elevations feature of SoftPlan
uses the information you defined as you drew
the floorplan to automatically create the four
elevation views.
A special feature of the elevation package
allows you to quickly and easily define any
roof style you desire.
You simply define the pitch, overhang and
roof style and SoftPlan will automatically add
the roof to the floorplan.
**0001
The front elevation you now see on the screen has been
automatically generated for the floorplan you created during
the floorplan demonstration.
**0002
As you can see SoftPlan will automatically set the correct size
of the elevation view, add the windows and doors to the size
and position defined by the floorplan, and add the roof to your
specifications.
**0003
To this drawing we must add information which you have not
defined on the floorplan.
Using the symbol libraries, special functions, and general
line drawing features, exact detail can quickly be added
to transform this initial drawing to a complete elevation
drawing.
**0004
We will start by using the symbol libraries to add pillars to
the front entrance, outside lights beside the front door and
garage door, and a decorative vent in the garage eaves.
**0005
SoftPlan provides many specialized features to quickly draw complex
items such as extra windows or doors, fascia boards, and quoin corners.
While most case the windows, doors and fascia boards are automatically
placed, you are free to use these tools to quickly modify any drawing.
**0006
In many designs quoin corners are added to the brickwork to
improve the appearance of the building. With SoftPlan this is very
easy using the automatic quoin feature.
**0007
To draw a quoin column select the QUOIN function (F3),
then draw a box to show the size of the quoin column.
**0008
Any line generated by the Elevations feature can be erased or moved
using the SoftPlan ERASE or MOVE feature.
**0009
You can use the EDIT feature to adjust the size
of the quoin blocks, and the space between blocks.
You can even specify alternate block sizes, as well as
different drawing styles to accent the coin column.
**0010
You can add any detail you require to the drawing
by using the shape drawing tools provided by SoftPlan.
Since we wish to cover the eaves of the garage with
a different material than the garage wall we will add
a line to divide the eaves from the wall.
**0011
The EDIT feature can also be used to select alternate window or door
styles. SoftPlan provides many window or door styles, however you can
easily add to the list by simply drawing the window or door you need
using the general shapes, then adding it to the appropriate library.
The window of door will then be available for all your future drawings.
**0012
We will first use EDIT to:
- add a grill pattern to the window.
- add a brick soldier course across the top of the window
- add shutters to the window.
**0013
We can use EDIT to quickly see how the building will look
with different window styles, for example we could choose
double-hung windows.
**0014
Any window style can be created using the basic shapes tools
provided by SoftPlan, for example a round top windows.
**0015
Details such as chimney caps are easily added using the standard
symbol libraries.
**0016
Once all the details have been added you can use the PAINT function
to add textures such as siding, brick or roofing, to the building.
